A grand Challenge
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is a large and growing global health problem that affects millions of people worldwide. IBD is often diagnosed in early adulthood and is a life-long disease currently without a cure. IBD severely impacts quality of life through ongoing and debilitating symptoms resulting from uncontrolled inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Unfortunately, current standard-of-care IBD drugs, across all classes of available therapeutics, often fail due to systemic side effects.
Our solution
Glytego’s patented GlycoCage Technology addresses this unmet clinical need by delivering potent therapeutic compounds precisely to the distal gastrointestinal tract, where inflammation occurs. Extensive pre-clinical studies have shown that Glytego’s first clinical candidate demonstrates unparalleled efficacy in the absence of systemic side-effects in two independent models of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. This candidate has significant potential to become a new best-in-class therapeutic and standard-of-care to induce and maintain remission of IBD. This will enable the use of lower doses of drug to achieve desired therapeutic effects, increasing safety, efficacy, and - most importantly - positive health outcomes for people with IBD.
